What’s a “Power Tie”?

Something that makes you feel powerful, right? That would be the literal definition, one would suppose. It’s much, much more than that, though. A “power tie” has been known to be a masculine symbol of authority, a dignifier of immense proportions. But how? And why? What makes a “power tie”?

Take a look at Ronald Reagan when he was President of the United States, or Donald Trump, or Regis Philbin. Look at the one characteristic while they wear their suits, blazers, or sport coats–right there underneath their tied shirt collar. They’ve been known to wear a certain type of tie. That’s a “power tie.”

Here’s the reason why: Reagan traditionally wore a monochromatic red tie, while you might remember Trump was well known for the all-pink tie, Regis always wore single-colored ties and he practically became synonymous with the style. And there’s the point: a “power tie” is a single-colored tie, no patterns. In fashion, this is traditional and timeless. Why?

When you’re dealing with solids, that’s the sense you get: it’s solid, it’s immoveable, insurmountable, nothing can get in your way, you’re powerful. Hence that’s why they’re called “power ties”!

If you’re dealing with a type of pattern, or novelty tie, you don’t get that same power! The pattern or design is all about the, well…. Pattern and design! It’s not about you. It should be about you. But if you want a tie that emphasizes you more than a style, you want a “power tie.” Nothing against other kinds of ties, though….

Now here’s the question: what kind of color do you want? That all depends on you. And that, friends, is where the personality really comes in. Just remember–because of your tie, your personality means power.
